In our modern age, the prevailing ethos is one of materialism, a force that exerts a profound influence on our daily lives. This ideology conditions us to constantly seek something better, something more, than what we possess at the moment. It has redirected our attention away from "what is" and toward the ceaseless pursuit of "what could be". We find ourselves trapped in a relentless rat race, where we exist solely to achieve the set notions of success defined by society. Therefore, instead of nurturing our passions and focusing on self-improvement, we make it our life’s purpose to outdo others materially. Due to this mindset, we start to quantify our relationships. In doing so, it has left me pondering the very essence of how life should be lived. The notion of doing well academically is but a narrow perspective, for life transcends the boundaries of materialistic achievement.
Life is a journey that extends far beyond the confines of textbooks, degrees, and settling into societal norms. It is more about the things we experience, the memories we make and the learnings we gain from them.
Ultimately, the worth of one's life cannot be quantified by the number of possessions amassed or the material benchmarks achieved; it is assessed by the level of happiness and fulfillment attained.
As we reflect on our existence, we come to realize that life's true value lies not in the accumulation of cars or houses but in the intangible moments, the relationships forged, and the wisdom gained along the way.
